本剧讲述了三个同年同月同日生的男孩找寻真爱的故事，展示了当代青年的爱情观和价值观。值得一提的是，尽管是一部清新幽默的偶像剧，但由于剧情的发展需要，6位男女主角最后必须一起以剃光头的方式，帮助其中一位身患白血病的好友鼓起与病魔抗争的勇气。因此主演该剧的6位目前正当走红的帅哥美女为求艺术的真实性，舍下了一头青丝。在电视剧生产异常红火的今天，对于这群年轻艺人而言，这的确需要很大的勇气。尽管当初剔发时，女演员们都流下了不舍的眼泪，可如今看着自己的作品赢得那么多的赞誉，张咏荷、王一楠均表示：“为这样的好戏剃去三千青丝，真的值了！”
影片故事发生在1948年冬天上海的一幢弄堂房子里。小官僚侯义伯非法霸占了这所房子，把原房主孔有文赶到咫尺之地的后客堂，他自己和姘妇余小瑛住在二楼。政府摇摇欲坠，侯义伯急于把房子顶出去好捞几个钱逃命。这件事引起房客们的恐慌，大家忙想办法对付。但与世无争的孔有文不敢挺身收回房子，华先生也自视清高不肯领头，肖老板自愿出头却碰了钉子。大家只好各自为谋。肖太太把仅有的首饰和盘尼西林针药押给侯义伯．借钱轧黄金，想发财顶房子，结果夫妻二人反被打伤；华先生想搬到学校去，校长用房子收买他，他拒绝了，却被以鼓励学潮的罪名被捕人狱；华太大女儿生病，向侯义伯求援反遭调戏……
