本剧的正派人物下场都很悲惨，心软之人敌不过心狠之人，飞鸟尽良弓藏的寓意也很明显。伍卫国在剧中的金国将军造型英挺，角色性格仁慈宽厚，允文允武，颇为讨好，和他演对手戏的叶玉卿后来成为他的女友。
