故事发生在风景如画的苏州河畔，修车匠高志华可怜小裁缝秦楠无处安身，遂让她把摊子摆在自己的摊子旁边，一来二去之间，两人的关系逐渐亲密起来。高志华的母亲对温柔贤惠的秦楠十分满意，着急儿子终身大事的她对高志华和秦楠之间的感情十分支持。
该剧根据同名畅销书改编，主要讲述三个年轻母亲看似完美的生活因卷入一宗谋杀案而被搅得天翻地覆，剧本则将由著名的David E. Kelley创作。
