此剧为韩国tvN于2017年12月9日起播出的周末剧，由洪忠灿导演与卢熙京作家继《我亲爱的朋友们》之后再度合作，改编自卢熙京的原著小说。2011年曾拍摄电影版。
《设得兰谜案》第四季已获得预定，依旧由Douglas Henshall主演，预计于2018年播出。第四季由David Kane担任主要编剧，将会延续第三季的模式，用六集篇幅讲述一个完整的案件。

不过再怎么留恋《白发魔女传》，这部小说毕竟已经结束了，现在大家最为关心的还是天启的下一部武侠。
如果把细节修改一下，把二十多年前流行的什么扶桑浪人、朝廷争斗都给删掉，换成现在流行的元素，《笑傲江湖之东方不败》就算现在上映，也绝对能火到爆。
